Erica’s career path started, as many great adventures do, with a simple plan: become a veterinarian. Somewhere along the way, that plan picked up a few plot twists—horses, cross-country moves, exotic animals, and at least one epic trek through the wilderness (plus a wedding on an actual volcano, because of course it did).
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University in 2009, then spent the next seven years wrangling life (and plenty of horses) while working on and managing farms in Arizona, Texas, New York, and Connecticut. Eventually trading in her boots for scrubs (well… mostly), Erica graduated from Norwalk Community College’s Veterinary Technology program in 2018, passed the VTNE that July, and joined Kensington Bird & Animal Hospital—where things got delightfully weird in the best way.
At KBAH, Erica discovered her passion for exotic companion animals and never looked back. She is currently the Head Surgery Technician and is actively working toward her VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialist) in Exotic Companion Animal Clinical Practice—because mastering “unusual” is kind of her thing.
When she’s not in surgery or caring for feathered, scaled, or otherwise unconventional patients, Erica can usually be found outside chasing her next adventure. She thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2015 (yes, the whole thing), tackled Havasupai in 2026, and—somewhere in between—married her partner of many years on a volcano in Hawai‘i National Park in 2023, because a normal venue was simply never in the cards. The two have been adventuring together since 2015, proving that shared chaos builds strong relationships. She now spends much of her time keeping up with her energetic husky mix—arguably her most demanding hiking partner yet. On quieter days, she’s perfectly content swapping hiking boots for a hammock, getting lost in a good book while gently swaying in the breeze.
A longtime member of the Connecticut Veterinary Technician Association (CTVTA) since 2017, Erica joined the membership committee in 2020 and moved into the membership chair position. Whether in the clinic, on a mountain, or somewhere in between, she brings curiosity, grit, and just the right amount of wild energy to everything she does.
